Since 1631, the Festa del Pubblico Voto has seen Bagnara di Romagna celebrate a tradition that now celebrates its four-hundredth anniversary. The festival was established on June 9, 1631, with the so-called "holy resolution" of the City Council as a solemn vow of thanksgiving to the Madonna "dei Camangi" for saving the town from the plague. It is said that the image of the Madonna, dating back to the fifteenth century, was found in the bed of the Santerno River by Ser Antonio Camangi, and is now preserved and venerated in the church of Saints John the Baptist and Andrew the Apostle. A significant five-day program, from Wednesday to the last Sunday of July, culminating with the solemn mass on Sunday, features religious ceremonies, a vintage motorcycle and car rally, food stands, and free entertainment.
